Frog and Toad All Year

Frog and Toad All Year

Author and Illustrator: Arnold Lobel

Genre: Fantasy (Animal)

Major Awards: Christopher Award

Grade Level: Pre-K-2

Summary: This book contains five short stories that align with the seasons (starting with winter and ending with winter). Frog and Toad are best friends and have many fun and humorous seasonal experiences, including sledding, eating ice cream, raking leaves, and celebrating Christmas Eve. Each season shows their personalities and reveals their friendship.

Reflection: I would keep this book in my classroom library for my students to read independently.

This book is best for young students (Pre-K-2) because they are still learning to read independently.  It is a great book for students who are just starting to read on their own because it provides the reader with humor and interesting story lines, but still uses familiar text and provides context through the illustrations.

I would not use this book for a whole class lesson, but would have it as an option for students to check out of the class library. Then I would ask comprehension questions or read a page or two to me.
