Amazing Dolphins!

Author: Sarah L. Thomson

Photographs: Wildlife Conservation Society

Genre: Nonfiction

Major Awards: None

Grade Level: Pre-K-2

Summary: This book, as implied by its title, is all about dolphins. The author takes the reader through all sorts of facts and characteristics of dolphins, such as why they use sounds and what the sounds can mean and that dolphins are mammals. It also introduces vocabulary like "echolocation."

Evaluation: This is a perfect "I Can Read!" book that I would love to have as part of my classroom library. The pictures that the Wildlife Conservation Society provided are beautiful and captivating and the information is stated simply, but is very thorough.

With its large print and simple sentences, this book is perfect for young readers/children just learning to read. I think it is also a great book for a readaloud for children who can not yet read and serves as a great source of information despite its short length.

This would be a great book if the class is doing a study on mammals, dolphins, or sea creatures. I think it is also a good tool for reading groups because it leaves a lot to discuss. I think it is also a great choice because it can help develop children's love for reading by tackling their individual interests.
