The Very Silly Shark
The Very Silly Shark
Author and Illustrator: Jack Tickle
Genre: Nonfiction
Major Awards: None
Grade Level: Pre-K-1
Summary: This book is a fun way to learn about a few different ocean animals. It includes a dolphin, a shark, and a pufferfish, among others. While it does not focus on a lot of factual information, it does introduce these different animals and their physical characteristics.
Evaluation: If I were to teach in the lower grades, this would be a great addition to my classroom library. It is a good introductory book for sea creatures that may prompt students to want to learn more about the ocean.
Because of the simple writing and pop-up features, this book is obviously meant for younger children. It would not be as enjoyable for older children because they would not get anything out of the text or the images.
If I were teaching lower grades, I think this would be a fun readaloud for students during a unit about different environments or even if a child had a specific question that I could provide the answer to for the whole class. It is colorful and attention-grabbing so it would be helpful to keep students engaged.
